Frequently Answered Questions

How does your pricing work?

Each content channel is offered for a monthly license fee for each player using the content. A "content channel" is the term we use to describe our news, weather, video, etc. Each channel has its own license fees and the more players you license for that individual channel, the lower the per player cost is. A "player" is any PC, media player, projector, or photo frame that powers the content. Each player can power up to two screens. If your network is powered by a video distribution system we require a license for every two screens.

How can I schedule the content on my screens?

Screenfeed provides a variety of content delivery methods to work with your digital signage software.

Flash
For most of our customers, using our content is as easy as
scheduling a Flash .swf file we provide you into a playlist. When the Flash file is presented it automatically connects to our service and displays the latest news, weather, info, etc. You may schedule the file for as little as 15 seconds or schedule it to display continuously for hours. As the Flash file displays it will keep checking for any new content to display. Optionally, we can provide individual files for each channel so you can display your own messages between a "Sports Report" and "Weather Forecast" for example.

Media RSS
This is our preferred method of delivery because it is standards based and allows the player to pre-download the content to the local player or server before it is time to display on screen. We're working with many digital signage software companies to convince them to add Media RSS support. A few that have include Tight Rope Media Systems, Signagelive and Coolsign.

SMIL
We're always looking to support standards for content delivery in Digital Signage. As standards-based players such as the AIS SVS-2103 become available we'll be able to support delivery of great content to them. Click here to learn more about SMIL as an Open Standard for Digital Signage.

FTP
For video content especially, FTP delivery is always an option. We can deliver content as it becomes available throughout the day or deliver at a set time each evening. Screenfeed will also be offering a downloading application in early 2010 that will have the capability to be installed on your players or server to pull down the latest content.

What are the requirements of my digital signage software or hardware?

The requirements are different for each content channel. For our video channels your software and hardware need to support MPEG4 (H.264) or MPEG2 video files. For other channels - if your software supports Flash 7 or above, you are good to go. The local Events channel does require Flash 9 support.

If you have a media player that does not support Flash, we need to define a way to deliver the content in an automated fashion. We can deliver content to digital media players via standards-based Media RSS or SMIL. If your media player does not support Media RSS or SMIL - we'll be happy to work with your software and hardware partners to determine a delivery system that works.

To display most content on screen, a 1.6Mhz or above processor will do the trick - if you subscribe to HD video content you will need to make sure you have a PC or media player that can power it.

Why don't you require contract lengths?

Because they don't help most networks. Why put up barriers for you to purchase our content? Most networks have enough risk and constraints purchasing hardware, dealing with venues and/or finding advertisers they don't need to be faced with committing to additional costs for a year or more. We'd like to make a good chunk of your content a no-brainer. No contract lengths on nearly all of our content, cancel anytime. That said, some networks do want the security of set pricing for a period of time and we're happy to create yearly agreements to offer price protection.

Do you have content in different languages?

We are working hard to offer content in as many languages as we can. Though we'll be adding additional languages to our News-in-Pictures service and Weather very soon - currently we only offer our Celebrity TV channel in multiple languages (English, Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch
and German).

Is all Screenfeed content licensed?

Yes. We take care of all licensing issues related to content. All content is licensed for use on digital signage networks, kiosks or public digital displays only - any other use requires written consent and would be subject to additional fees. Large public spaces such as sports arenas, airports and Times Square would be subject to an alternative licensing agreement.

Does your content work with digital photo frames?

Yes. We are very excited about the use of digital photo frames as digital signage. Our News-in-Pictures Channels, Weather Graphics, Weather Radar, and Golfscapes channels currently support digital photo frames. Photo frames with Wifi capability can connect directly to a Screenfeed Media RSS feed and display our content. As the popularity of using digital photo frames for messaging at checkout, on the aisle or on a wall grows we'll add additional resolution formats such as 800x600 and 1600x1050 to support them.

In addition to the many manufacturers of Wifi enabled digital photo frames PhotoVu and Smartparts offer a 22" and 32" product respectively.

Last question, where have you been all my life?

We're excited about bringing an important piece of the digital signage puzzle to the market. We're sorry it took so long - we've been providing the service to individual customers since mid-2008 and launched to the marketplace in Feb of 2009.
